Lacrosse

Lacrosse may be one the greatest sports invented if you ask me. I have never played in a league or anything, but this sports takes skill and grace and combines it with being physical. This weekend I went to the Stony Brook versus Virginia lacrosse game. I went to the game firstly becuase my best friend was playing in it. He happens to play for Stony Brook. The game was great exspecially the fisrt half. Virginia being the number one team in the nation was favored to dominate Stony Brook. In the first half though this was not the case. Stony Brook was only down by 2 at halftime. The score being 7-5. Virginia did carry most the play, but not too noticebly. There was one play in the first half that demonstrated the skill needed in lacrosse. A player on Virgina cut across the net, but would not get a clear shot off or so we all thought. He rifled a shot over his back shoulder into the net.

In the second half it was all Virginia. They went on to win 15- 7. It would have been more if it were not for the brilliant goaltending on Stony Brook. There was one play in the second half that shows how brutal lacrosse can be. A player on Stony Brook fell ok the ground and was fighting for a loose ball. A player on Virginia came a cross and leveled him across the neck with his stick. The player had a concusion and needed stitches.

All in all though it was a lot of fun to go and watch the game. Lacrosse is a pretty big thing for most people on Long Island.
